WhenDaisy O’Connor came for her Café con Siete performance and visit, she admitted that seven (siete) is her lucky number. And, when she realized that “Garza” translates to “Heron” in English, a big smile of astonishment spread across her face as she exclaimed, “I have a massive tattoo of a Heron running down my leg!” Well. If that’s not serendipitous, then we don’t know what is.

Friday, February 8th, it hailed little white pebbles of ice around the office. The same way people say the only constant in life is change, Texans know that irregular weather conditions are the norm around here. Tan lines at Christmas? Possible. Polar vortexes en Febrero? Probable. Inside the cafe, however, we welcomed the talented Trio Los Vigilantes to join us for our fifth Café Con Siete. In doing so, we escaped the cold and warmed up our corazones with a little música de México.

They felt like they could be our friendly, next door neighbors, from way back. (We certainly wish they were!) Sitting before us: a handsome, folksy duo, all the way from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  For four years, Clay and Jodi have written and toured together, and we were delighted that their journey led them to our couch and armchair for the fourth Café con Siete.

Siete’s got a secret play for the big game, and not only does it fit in a bowl, but it’s got super flavor, no matter which team you are rooting for! Our 4th Quarter Queso is paleo, gluten-free, and vegan so everyone can eat like a winner at the party.
