Café Con Siete - Tiarra Girls

Juntos es Mejor. It’s a phrase that our familia uses a lot. It expresses our willingness to lend a helping hand, to love fiercely, and journey together. It speaks to our family culture, how we value hospitality, and enjoy inviting others into our casa—and, on certain Fridays, to Café con Siete. But when theTiarra Girls came to visit, “Juntos es Mejor” did something special. It united Siete and the Tiarra Girls in our commonalities: our Mexican-American heritage, our values, and our stories.

The Tiarra Girls are band of young women paving their way in the music industry, hand in hand with family. Tiffany, Sophia, and Tori are three-time Austin Music Award winners, Latina songwriters and composers, all under 21 years old, and a devoted sisterhood. Using music as an anthem of unity and empowerment, their music celebrates both the Spanish and English cultures. Since 2010, the Ann Richards School alumni have been playing together, honing their musical skills to create an Alternative-Indie-Pop-Rock sound that is distinctly their own.

They shared five songs with us: Lonely Room, a song about giving life and love; a cover of their favorite Selena song, Que Creías; Argument, a blues song inspired by texting and driving argument; Amor Eterno, a song they learned to play to honor their grandmother; and a song about coming together with the community to make a change, Leave it to the People. Hearing the stories behind their songs, and the stories within their lyrics was a beautiful soundtrack—the soundtrack of a sisterhood. Our familia’s final verdict: the Baltierra girl, quite frankly, rock.

We are so grateful for our time together. Through their music, we could feel their desire toinspire andconnect. For our Siete familia, they have done both. Familia primero, educación segundo, y el amor y musica sigue. Mil gracias for coming, Tiarra Girls.¡Hasta luego!
